Description
A one-kilometre railway tunnel on an unfinished stretch of track that was intended to reach the heart of Albania’s mining industry. Construction began in the 1980s and was never completed. The prepared roadbed winds between hills and disappears into a tunnel bored beneath the tallest of them.
You can reach the tunnel entrance either along the roadbed itself — a few kilometres on foot — or by descending a dirt road down the hillside, a drop of about 300 metres. The tunnel is flooded, and local residents use it as a water reservoir. What lies at the far end remains unknown. A fun idea: bring a kayak or a stand-up paddleboard and paddle your way through to the other side.
