Cement Factory

A communist-era cement factory built with the assistance of the People’s Republic of China. At present only the cement storage silos remain operational: trucks and concrete mixers still call at them. The kiln, the raw material preparation workshops, the conveyors and all other cement production infrastructure have been idle since 2010. An operators’ post is situated at the lower end of the kiln.

A freight aerial ropeway once ran to the factory, connecting it to a quarry and a metallurgical plant. Carbonate and sulphate rock came from the quarry; slag for use as a cement filler came from the steelworks. The intermediate station of the ropeway is effectively abandoned as well. It contains cargo trolleys and an operator’s booth.

The site is guarded by several security personnel; one of them sits in a white booth not far from the abandoned section. Trucks and workers may be encountered on the roads closer to the operational part of the factory.
