City Hotel in Modernist Style V-N

A small abandoned hotel sitting on top of a rather steep cliff. It consists of two three-storey buildings connected by a shared lobby. There is a spacious viewing terrace. From the promenade, a winding staircase winds its way up to the hotel between pines and oaks. Built during the communist era, the building features architectural elements characteristic of socialist modernism. It was abandoned mid-renovation, during some attempt at refurbishment.

The ground-floor café held on longer than the rest — operating until the summer of 2023 or even 2024 — but it too eventually closed and did not reopen in the summer of 2025. The most likely cause: it simply wasn’t profitable. The place is not exactly a high-traffic spot, and in peak heat you’d sooner die climbing that staircase than stop for a coffee. Perhaps if it had reopened as a proper hotel with a restaurant it might have stood a chance — but who needs a café perched on a tall hill, running as a glorified coffee shop with a very modest menu? Even if there was once a pizza oven, it didn’t survive.

Security staff were spotted in the building right up until early summer 2025. A caretaker or the owner is likely still keeping an eye on the place, just not actually in it. There’s a car in the car park out front that clearly hasn’t gone anywhere in at least six months.
