Communist-Times Public Swimming Pool

An unfinished 50-metre, ten-lane “olympic” pool tucked away in a residential neighbourhood not far from the city stadium. Construction began during the communist period and was never completed. The pool has a constant depth of roughly two metres, a basin that remains watertight to this day, and a concrete grandstand running the full length of one side. Under the grandstand stands a battered security booth. After rain the basin fills with water and various reeds take root; in hot weather it dries out completely. Fig trees grow around the perimeter, and from roughly midsummer onwards the pool’s rim becomes a perfectly convenient platform for picking figs.

The entry point is not immediately obvious — be prepared either to haul yourself up the concrete corners or to force your way through the bushes.
