Copper Mine S-JB

A former copper mine. Several adits from different periods of construction are scattered across the gorge. The most interesting are the one marked on the map and another located deeper in the gorge.

The first has preserved concrete support, remnants of a shaft, a hoist room and a transformer room. The entrance is partially blocked but can be squeezed through.

The second adit has an enormous entrance portal several metres high — wide enough to drive a car through. Inside the mine it is bright, textured, and very damp. Almost no metal has survived; what remains are concrete and wooden supports. The old rotting logs and sleepers are extremely slippery — take care. Rubber boots are recommended for the wet sections; you can wash the clay off in the nearest river.
