Hoxha's Bunker in Skrapar Valley

A bunker complex in a mountain valley, intended to shelter Enver Hoxha, his family, and his closest associates in the event of war. The location was chosen as the most inaccessible in the country — and it truly lives up to that description. Getting there requires either a capable off-road vehicle or a journey on foot.

The site includes: a radio communications bunker, a bunker of unknown purpose, a command bunker for the military elite, a bunker for Enver Hoxha and his entourage, an underground power station, ammunition stores, and an above-ground villa.

All the structures were once equipped to the highest technical standards of their day, but nothing survived the turbulent 1990s intact. The concrete ceilings have been torn apart by scrap metal collectors, the villa building has been demolished by the same hands or by the harsh mountain climate, and virtually everything made of metal has been stolen.

The site holds value primarily as a historical landmark, or as the destination for a one- to two-day mountain hiking trip.
