Iron-Nickel Mines K-GC

A remote iron-nickel ore mining area, far from civilisation, stretching two to three kilometres across. The ore was worked both by open pit (through quarries) and underground (in shafts and adits).

Some of the workings can be explored without special gear; others have sheer vertical drops, so ropes and the skill to use them may be needed (at your own risk). The adits are prone to collapse and damp in places. In hot weather, when the temperature difference between inside and outside is large, a strong cold wind can blow out of the tunnels.

The area itself can be reached by car along the mountain top, from either the north or the south; the roads down to the adits and quarries themselves, however, are passable only on foot — the old tracks have long since turned into narrow stony paths. Near one of the former workings lie the remains of abandoned quarry machinery, though the working itself has collapsed almost right at the entrance.
