Screws and Nails Factory
Description
A factory that produced nails, screws, bolts, staples, barbed wire, and similar hardware during communist Albania. During the civil war it was almost entirely stripped bare. In the early 2000s there was an attempt to revive production: the factory received a modest injection of state funds, one workshop was refurbished, and some equipment was purchased or repaired. The plant operated for a few years before sliding into bankruptcy after an unsuccessful run.
The site comprises several workshops and buildings: mechanical, thermal, electroplating, laboratory, instrumentation and control, boiler room, canteen, and electrical substation. Judging by their condition, either the factory was looted all over again, or its second life required five times less equipment than the first. Though something is still there.
Nobody seems to care about the place. Between the two vehicle entrance gates, an orange truck has been standing for years.
