Description

The grounds of a former military installation that housed a tank brigade of the Albanian army, tasked with defending the south of the country. The brigade was equipped with Type-59 tanks and several types of armoured personnel carrier. Until 2007–2009, several dozen tanks were stationed here, after which they were sent for smelting. As of 2025, four rusting APCs reportedly remain on site.

The base sits at the foot of a hill and consists of a flat open area and a cluster of tunnels bored into the hillside. The open area was used for parking vehicles, carrying out maintenance and drilling personnel. It also contains a headquarters building, barracks, storehouses, several personnel bunkers and an underground fuel depot. The tunnels served as garages, a fuel store, or housed the brigade headquarters. There are six tunnel-garages in total and three tunnels for headquarters and storage. Each tunnel-garage could accommodate four to five tanks.

The grounds have become somewhat overgrown with brambles and other vegetation. Sheep now graze on the area where the tanks once stood.

One occasionally encounters odd individuals living in the derelict headquarters building. They claim to be military personnel, though they wear no uniforms and carry no weapons, the entrance to the base is wide open right off the main road, and there are no signs anywhere indicating a military area. These people speak aggressively and forbid visitors from looking at the ruins and the rusting vehicles. To avoid running into them, one can descend the hillside and pass outside their line of sight.
