Description

The territory of a former military installation that housed a tank brigade of the Albanian army, responsible for defending the capital, Tirana, from the south. The unit was equipped with Type-59 tanks.

The base sits at the foot of a hill and consists of a flat open area and a cluster of tunnels driving into the hillside. The open ground served as a parking and maintenance area for vehicles and as a parade and muster ground for personnel. A pair of ruined administrative buildings also remain on the site. The tunnels were used as garages, a fuel depot, or housed the brigade headquarters. There are around ten to twelve tunnels in total. Each tunnel garage could accommodate four to five tanks. In some of the garages, military slogans and maintenance instructions stencilled in paint survive on the walls. Private houses have since been built on the hilltop above, and their residents tip rubbish down the slope. Some tunnels are flooded or filled with dried clay.

The site is unguarded. Grazing goats may be encountered. The grounds are heavily overgrown with brambles and other vegetation.
