Tirana Car Dump

A police impound yard on the edge of Tirana, where vehicles seized after crashes, criminal cases and other illegal activity are left to rot. A couple of hundred cars and vans stand in long rows along a dirt track, while separate lanes between the remains of concrete sheds are packed with motorcycles and mopeds. A corner of its own is taken up by construction machinery: excavators, tipper trucks, loaders and a couple of cranes.

Nothing has been hauled out of here for years, and the brambles are taking it all back: many vehicles are sunk into the thickets up to the roof, and whole rows can be made out only from above. The yard is guarded by a police officer who sits at the gatehouse. It is an excellent spot for drone photography — the scale of the place only comes across from the sky.
