Chrome Mine E-FK

A chrome mine closed in 2025. Remarkably well preserved. The tunnels still have rails laid and a trolley wire strung overhead; outside stand mine carts and an electric locomotive; there is a shaft with two cages and a winding engine. In addition to the vertical shaft there are also inclined shafts — an older method of descending to the lower levels.

The site is guarded by a young man who sometimes leaves his post. A cat lives near his booth. There are CCTV cameras and dogs.

Warning: the lower levels have reduced oxygen, especially near the flooded shaft. The lower third of the unflooded shaft is filled with carbon dioxide — this is life-threatening (chokedamp).
